Ajmal Kasab is unaware of Supreme Court decision

One day has passed since the Supreme Court upheld Ajmal Kasab’s death sentence, jailed Pakistani terrorist is still unaware of Supreme Court decision prison official said on Thursday.   

“We think it is not advisable to communicate the Supreme Court verdict to Kasab yet. We have not received the hard copy of the judgment papers and hence the decision,” A.C. Rane, superintendent of high-security Arthur Road Jail here, said.

  He also said the decision was served to  Ajmal Kasab  in an appropriate manner by the jail authorities.

He said “As jail officials, it is our responsibility to serve him the verdict and tell him about his fate. What is the point in telling him now when we don’t even have the copy of the verdict?”

A.C. Rane said once he receive the copy of verdict he would give it to Ajmal Kasab also take his signature on it but he is not sure when the copy will arrive.

The death sentence of Ajmal Kasab upheld by the supreme court on Wednesday.

The apex court rejected Kasab’s contention that the terror attack was a war against the government of India and not against people.

Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab was born in Faridkot village in the Okara District of Punjab, Pakistan and parents whom he belong Amir Shahban Kasab(father) and Noor Illahi(mother). His father work as dahi puri vendor, while Afzal his elder brother work as a labourer in Lahore, his elder sister Rukaiyya Husain is married in the village. A younger brother Munir and sister suraiyya live in Faridkot with their parents.

In 2005 he left home after a fight with his father because he asked for the new clothes on Eid due to the problem of money he did not get new clothes for him. Then he involve into petty crime with his friend Muzaffar Lal Khan, later moved to armed robbery.  On 21 December 2007 Eid-al-adha they were trying to buy weapons in Rawalpindi.

Initial reports stated that Kasab is fluent in English also from middle class background. An interrogator and deputy commissioner of the Mumbai Police perhaps stated that he spoke rough Hindi and barely any English.

Some sources said his father asked him to join Lashkar-e-Taiba so that he could use the money they gave him to run the family. When asked about this, Kasab’s father told reporters, “I don’t sell my sons..”

Kasab was among 24 members group who receive training in marine warfare at a remote camp in mountainous Muzaffarabad in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan. Part of the training is reported to have taken place on the Mangla Dam reservoir. Senior commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba offered to pay his family Rs 150,000 for his participation in the attacks. Another report state that he was recruited from his home, in part, based on a pledge by recruiters to pay Rs.100,000 to his family when he became a martyr.

Kasab and his partner Abu Dera Ismail Khan attacked the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station. Then they move to attack a police vehicle at Cama hospital in which senior Mumbai police officers (Maharashtra ATS Chief Hemant Karkare, encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar and Additional Commissioner of Mumbai Police Ashok Kamte) were travelling. After killing them in a gun battle and taking two constables hostage in the Qualis, Kasab and Ismail Khan drove towards Metro cinema. Kasab said joked about bulletproof vest put on by the police they then killed one constable when his mobile phone rang.

About 10 pm D B Marg police had got a message from police control saying that two heavily armed men were at large after gunning down commuters at CST. Later 15 policemen from DB Marg sent to Chowpatty there they set up a double barricade on Marine Drive armed with two self-loading rifles (SLRs), two revolvers and batons. Skoda reached Chowpatty and halted 40 to 50 feet from the barricade, they take a reverse u turn and then shootout started between police and terrorist and Ismail Khan was killed.  Kasab lay down motionless pretending as dead. Assistant Sub Inspector Tukkaram Omble who was only armed with baton move towards him, Ajmal Kasab fired five bullets on him, still he held on Kasab gun, then other policemen came and caught Ajmal Kasab the only one who caught alive.
