The Indian Army is the largest component of Indian Army Forces and also the land based branch. The Indian Army came into being when India got independence on 15 August 1947 till present. The total strength of Indian Army according to the IISS is of 1,129,900 Active personnel, 960,000 Reserve personnel, 158 Aircraft, 62 Ballistic Missiles in 2012 which make the Indian Army the world’s largest standing volunteer Army.
The primary mission of the Indian Army is to maintain peace and National security and also the Army officers Defense of the republic of India. It also helps in Natural disasters like flood, drought etc. A four star commander who commands the Army is (COAS) a General Chief of Army Staff. The service of Indian Army is voluntary and although a provision for a military conscription exists in the Indian constitution it has never been imposed. The main Headquarters of an Indian Army is in New Delhi, India.

The criteria of National Cadet Crop (NCC) C certificate holders to apply for Short service commission (SSC) and for SSB for (Non Technical) at Officers Training Academy, Chennai.
QUALIFICATION REQUIRED
- Completed His or Her Graduation by passing with minimum 50% marks from any recognized university.
- And should also served for minimum two academic years in NCC in (SD) Senior division and also have C or D certificate minimum at the time of filling their application forms.
How to Apply
All Applications in the prescribed format will be forwarded to Rtg. Directorate (NCC) through HQ DG NCC. The NCC Units/GP HQs will forward the applications to State Directorates who in turn will forward the same to Hq DG NCC. On arrival at the SSB, the Shortlisted candidates will be administered stage-1 of the two stage testing procedure. Apply as per the prescribed format on the plain paper. From where the (NCC) C certificate has been issued the applications should be posted. Applications of candidates serving in the Armed Forces duly counter signed by the commanding officer should be sent to the OC, NCC West Block-4, R.K Puram, New Delhi- 110066.
