Sunita Williams (Indian-American astronaut) takes Off For 2nd Space Mission

Indian American astronaut and Naval officer of the United States Sunita Williams also who holds the record of longest space flight made by a woman(195 days) is now again in news for her 2^nd space mission.

NASA told, Williams along with Flight Engineers Yuri Malenchenko of Russia and Akihiko Hoshide of Japan they are headed off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 8:40 am Sunday (India 8:10 am) on Tuesday 12:52 am they will dock to the Rassvet Module to join Commander Gennady Padalka and Flight Engineers Joe Acaba and Sergei Revin at the space station. This time she will be work as a team leader.

Sunita Williams is the second Indian woman who has been selected for a space mission by NASA after Kalpna Chawla and the second astronaut of Slovenian heritage after Ronald M Sega.

She holds two more records for female space travellers, number of space walks (four) and a total time spent on spacewalks (29 hours and 17 minutes) during her first space journey in 2006.

Williams attended Needham High School in Needham and graduate in 1983. She has received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical science from the United States Naval Academy in 1987, and also Master of Science degree from Florida Institute of Technology in 1995.

She received her designation as a Basic Diving Officer after a six-month temporary assignment at the Naval Coastal System Command, she then reported to the Naval Air Training Command in July 1989 she was designated as a Naval Aviator.

Williams who is the daughter of Indian-American father and Slovenian Mother Williams will be aboard the station along with her colleagues  during an exceptionally busy period which includes two spacewalks, the arrival of Japanese, US commercial and Russian resupply vehicles, and as well an increasingly faster pace of scientific research, as told by US space agency.
